Semi-Luxury Safari Accommodation of Tanzania’s Northern Circuit


Our semi-luxury options constitute, predominantly, Moivaro’s range of permanent tented camps, and The Hotel and Lodges Group’s ‘Wildlife Lodges’.


While neither option aims to qualify as luxurious, both operations have recently enjoyed comprehensive upgrades at most of their properties and now offer good value for money.

In addition to Moivaro and H&L, we also use the following properties:


Kisima Ngeda is a small camp based close to the edge of Lake Eyasi in the Acacia Bush.  Comprising of seven separated tents the camp has a personal feel and offers a warm welcome and a more intimate travel experience. It is situated only minutes away from our bush camp and makes a comfortable and convenient base from which to enjoy exchanges with the Hadzabe bushmen.


Ndutu Safari Lodge is the only semi-luxury accommodation which straddles the boundary between southern Serengeti and north-west Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ndutu therefore requires early booking if planning to go on safari in the wet season when the migration is far south. Those able to stay here from April to June can normally expect to enjoy excellent game encounters without the need to travel far on rough roads. While the hotel advertises and prices itself as luxury, travellers to such a remote region should moderate their expectations somewhat.  


Tarangire Safari Lodge is renowned for its views and proximity to the game and offers excellent sighting opportunities during the dry season. While the standard is fairly basic, the staff are generally very friendly and welcoming. For safari-goers wanting to spend an evening and a morning in the park, or wanting to be well placed for an early morning start into Tarangire on the last day of their safari, we consider this option about the best value for money, within this accommodation grade.
